It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Civil Engineering Department of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur-5200. The Department was established in 2014 and now stands as an academic center of excellence, innovation, and research in the field of Civil Engineering. As the Chairman of this prestigious department, I am honored to lead a dedicated team of faculty members, researchers, and professionals to committed excellence in Civil Engineering education and research.
The first academic session began on 23rd February 2015, and there were 50 students in total, including 10 international students who embarked on their journey to become future Engineers. Many of the graduates are working in different government and private organizations in Bangladesh. Some graduates are doing Master’s and PhD in Bangladesh and abroad.
Civil Engineering is one of the oldest branches of Engineering and provides a strong foundation for designing and creating sustainable infrastructure. Our Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (B. Sc. in CE) degree provides core knowledge in basic sciences, mathematics, and social sciences, along with specialized courses in the following disciplines: Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geo-Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Materials Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, Wastewater Engineering, and Coastal Engineering. To achieve this, we offer an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum that emphasizes sustainability, new technology, and inclusive development. The purpose of the Department is to provide knowledge, skills, and ethical values necessary to achieve success in the dynamic field of Civil Engineering. We focus on incorporating problem-solving approaches, innovation, sustainability, and the use of modern technology. Students are encouraged to conduct research, participate in hands-on projects, and engage in co-curricular activities that develop leadership skills, teamwork, and social responsibility.
I want to thank our faculty, staff, and students for their dedication to advancing the department’s standards of teaching and research. Together, we aim to produce competent, innovative, and socially responsible Engineers to develop Bangladesh in a sustainable way.
