With a view to imparting Food Science and Technology oriented education in Bangladesh, the Department of Food Engineering and Technology (FET) has started its journey in 2005 as one of the important Gateways of integrated Food and Process Engineering (B.Sc. in FPE) degree under the former faculty of Agro-Industrial and Food Process Engineering (AFPE), which is currently known as the Faculty of Engineering. It is my great pleasure to invite you to explore the Department of Food Engineering and Technology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) online through our website. Currently it is offering a Master of Science (MS) degree since 2011 and also offering a PhD degree since 2017 that prepare students for leadership positions in the food industry, academia and government.
The aim of the Food Engineering and Technology Department is to enable students to gain the engineering skills that can use modern science and technology in processing, preserving, distributing and marketing food. There is a complete balance between theory and practice in the curriculum. This knowledge is directed towards the design and selection of the best methods of conservation, transformation, packaging, storage, distribution and usage, so that food is of a high sensorial quality, safe, nutritious, healthy, adapted to new consumption habits and in accordance with current legislation. Our research programs are designed to expand understanding of the biological/microbiological, chemical, physical, sensory, nutritional and engineering properties of foods. The Degree holders may work in food manufacturing & processing industries, quality assurance & control, food safety auditor, research and development etc.
