    Position: Principal Investigator

Description: Efficacy of botanical and synthetic insecticides were evaluated against Bactrocera cucurbitae on bitter gourd in the research field. The plant extracts and insecticides showed variable efficacies in reducing the fruit infestation and larval density over control treatment.

  4. Anti ovipositional and repellent effect of plant extracts against cucurbit fruit fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae (coq.)

Funded by: Funded by UGC Bangladesh through Institute of Research and Training (IRT), HSTU, Dinajpur.

    Position: Principal Investigator

Description: Anti ovipositional and repellent effects of six plant extracts with three different solvents (methanol, acetone and water) were evaluated against Bactrocera cucurbitae in the laboratory conditions. On the basis of adult settled, progeny develoment, percent repellency and oviposition deterrence, the order of toxicity of the plant extracts was found as tobacco > neem > water pepper > castor > bullock’s heart > eucalyptus.

  5. Suppression of pulse beetle (Callosobruchus chinensis L.) infesting stored chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) seed with some botanical extracts

Funded by: Special allocation, Ministry of science and Technology, Bangladesh.

    Position: Co-Investigator

Description: The efficacy of 6 indigenous plant extracts with two different solvents viz. acetone and petroleum ether was assessed for their grain protectant efficacy against the attack of C. chinensis. The efficacy was evaluated considering oviposition, adult emergence, seed infestation and seed weight loss caused by C. chinensis. Cchickpea seeds treated with tested botanicals especially neem extract with acetone performed best to suppress C. chinensis in stores.

  6. Effect of biophysical fruit traits of bitter gourds on the infestation of Bactrocera cucurbitae (coq.)

Funded by: Funded by UGC Bangladesh through Institute of Research and Training (IRT), HSTU, Dinajpur.

    Position: Principal Investigator

Description: The fruit traits associated with resistance to cucurbit fruit fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae (Coquillett), of different bitter gourd varieties viz. tia, heeradill, bulbuli, masrnagha, goghkorolla, poran, green queen and sonamukhi were used. Biophysical fruit-traits like fruit length, fruit diameter, number of longitudinal ribs and small ridges were lowest in resistant and the highest in susceptible varieties which showed a significant positive correlation with the percent fruit infestation. Additionally, the height of longitudinal ribs, depth of small ridges, pericarp thickness and fruit toughness were highest in resistant and the lowest in susceptible varieties. These parameters showed negative correlation with the percent fruit infestation.

  7. Varietal preference and biological traits of litchi fruit borer (Conopomorpha sinensis Bradley)

Funded by: Special allocation, Ministry of science and Technology, Bangladesh.

    Position: Principal Investigator

Description: Experiment was carried out on the varietal preference in respect to seasonal infestation and biological traits of litchi fruit borer, Conopomorpha. sinensis, on Bombai, Madrazi, Bedena and China-3 litchi varieties. The highest infestation was found in Bombai (80 %) and lowest in China-3 (50%). Life history traits of C. sinensis were detected on Madraji and Bombai.

  8. Screening of different varieties of bitter gourd against cucurbit fruit fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae (coq.) (Diptera: Tephritidae)

Funded by: Funded by UGC Bangladesh through Institute of Research and Training (IRT), HSTU, Dinajpur.

    Position: Principal Investigator

Description: Varietal susceptibility of different bitter gourd varieties viz. tia, heeradill, bulbuli, masrnagha, goghkorolla, poran, green queen and sonamukhi to cucurbit fruit fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae(Coq.) based on percent fruit infestation and larval density was conducted. The percent fruit-infestation and larval density were significantly varied among the bitter gourd varieties. Among the tested bitter gourd varieties, the order of infestation intensity was found as green queen > bulbuli > poran > tia > goghkorolla > heeradil > masrangha > sonamukhi.

  9. Toxicity effect of some indigenous plant extracts against rice brown plant hopper, Nilaparvata lugens stal. (Hemiptera: Delphacidae)

Funded by: Funded by UGC Bangladesh through Institute of Research and Training (IRT), HSTU, Dinajpur.

    Position: Principal Investigator

Description: The bioefficacy of six indigenous plant extracts viz. leaves of Caloropis gigantea, Polygonum hydropiper, Tagetes erecta, Ricinus communis, Capsicum frutescens and Vitex negundo were investigated against a destructive pest of rice, Brown Plant Hopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stal.) under the laboratory conditions. The methanol solvent extracts at 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 % concentration were evaluated against nymph and adult. Among the tested plant extracts, C. frutescens plant extract showed the highest toxic effect whereas R. communis plant extract showed the The bioefficacy of six indigenous plant extracts viz. leaves of Caloropis gigantea, Polygonum hydropiper, Tagetes erecta, Ricinus communis, Capsicum frutescens and Vitex negundo were investigated against a destructive pest of rice, Brown Plant Hopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stal.) under the laboratory conditions. The methanol solvent extracts at 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 % concentration were evaluated against nymph and adult.
