PROJECTS

  1. Antibiotic resistance Modulatory effects of garlic and black pepper on isolated bacteria Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp from poultry farms

Funded by: Institute of Research and Training, HSTU

    Position: Principle Investigator

Description: Poultry is one of the most important sectors of livestock in Bangladesh for maintaining the need of protein and nutrition as well as empowerment. The indiscriminate use of antibiotic in poultry farms is likely to causes antibiotic residues in poultry products which accelerate the development of antibiotic resistance microbes. In recent year, the report has indicated high antibiotic resistance levels in Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp (1).Salmonella spp causes intestinal infection in poultry. Escherichia coli is another microbial flora in gastrointestinal tract of poultry which causes various disease such as meningitis, diarrhoea, septicemia, omphalitis etc. Previous study reported that Escherichia coli are high rate resistance to amoxicillin, oxytetracycline, streptomycin (2). Salmonella spp show multidrug resistance with streptomycine, sulphonamides and ampicillin (3).Therefore, there is a need to search medicinal plant (garlic, black pepper etc) for the treatment of disease and to mimic antibiotic resistance pattern in present situation. Garlic (Allium sativum) has traditional dietary and strong antibacterial agent. Black pepper (Pippernigrum) was used to treat asthma, obesity, sinusitis with antibacterial activities. The aim of the present study is to investigate the antibiotic resistance modulatory effects of garlic and black pepper on isolated bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp) from poultry farms. Aims and objectives: 1) Isolation and identification of Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp from poultry farms in Dinajpur Sadar, Dinajpur 2) To evaluate the antibiotic sensitivity pattern of isolated Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp from poultry farms. 3) To evaluate antibiotic resistance modulatory effects of garlic and black pepper on isolated bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp) from poultry farms.

  2. Effects of Anti-Microbial Activity of Selected Medicinal Plants Against Multidrug Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Funded by: Institute of Research and Training, HSTU

    Position: Principle Investigator

    Description: Completed (July, 2019 - June, 2020)

  3. Dietary Effect of Different antibiotics and Detection of Antibiotic Residue in the Meat of Sonali Chicken in Bangladesh
